Natalie Massenet is the founder and executive chairman of The NET-A-PORTER Group Limited whose brands include NET-A-PORTER, the world’s premier online luxury fashion retailer for women, THE OUTNET, the most fashionable fashion outlet, and MR PORTER, the first global online menswear destination.
As a former fashion editor for high profile international publications W, WWD and Tatler, Massenet’s idea for NET-A-PORTER was to create an online magazine that would allow women to buy the latest designer clothes straight from the page. Massenet launched NET-A-PORTER in June 2000, THE OUTNET in April 2009 and MR PORTER in February 2011.
The Financial Times has called NET-A-PORTER the “barometer of fashion”, and the business is credited by Vogue for “revolutionizing the way we buy designer clothes”. THE OUTNET has been cited as “the most addictive of websites” by Stella magazine whilst Lucky magazine stated it was “like visiting the best outlet ever”. MR PORTER was awarded 2011 Luxury Brand Online at The Walpole Awards for Excellence 2011.
The NET-A-PORTER Group Limited employs over 1,700 people in London and New York. The exciting and energetic environment is a reflection of Massenet’s goal to create a great place to shop and a great place to work, a fact recognized by the Sunday Times who have ranked NET-A-PORTER as one of the Top 100 Best Companies to Work For, three years running.
Massenet has been honoured with an MBE for services to the fashion industry and ranked 20th in this year’s WIRED 100 – a survey of Britain’s digital power players. She has been named as one of 10 women to watch in Europe by the Wall Street Journal, won Harper's Bazaar Innovator of the Year award, was listed at number 32 in Vanity Fair’s The 2011 New Establishment List, and received the 2010 Quintessentially Award for Excellence.
In 2010, its 10th year of business, NET-A-PORTER launched its interactive magazine iPad app, which has since been nominated for a PPA award and commended in the best app category at the Design Week Awards. In February 2011, NET-A-PORTER TV was launched. It was the first fashion T-commerce experience available in the US on Google TV and pioneered augmented reality shopping in The Window Shop initiative as part of Vogue’s Fashion’s Night Out.
